Why we do what we do

We enjoy taking a creative approach to the law on behalf of our clients. Needless to say, we never cross the boundaries of the legal and permissible but we are often able to suggest alternative solutions which serve to minimize tax liability. We like to go further than others in our profession and will examine all options. The most obvious approach is not necessarily the best approach. We examine ‘the question behind the question’ so that we accomplish not only what you ask but also what you really need.

 

For example, we once conducted a property transfer on behalf of a client. By asking pertinent questions, we were able to determine exactly why he wished to undertake this transaction at that exact moment. We were able to propose an alternative solution which involved bequeathing the property to the intended recipient in the client’s Will. This reduced the overall inheritance tax liability by some €150,000.

 

Another client instructed us to prepare a lease for a commercial building owned by his private limited company (BV). Again, we asked pertinent questions and proposed an arrangement whereby the lessor would take a financial interest in the lessee’s company. This will reduce the inheritance tax liability on our client’s estate by some €200,000.
